I think it's a great idea.
morning coffee would be great on blustery mornings....or any morn!!!
I use the hotdog vendor and would rather have coffee and pastry
have to make sure people so not take the food in to the beach area
Great idea
It would be nice to have easier access to drinks and snacks.
Several of us were actaully talking about this. I lost my job and the thought was that I could start this new business.
Depending on zoning issues, it would be nice to have a patio overlooking the beach. This will allow for folks to have a place to sit and relax w/o having to worry about their stuff getting peed on.
But not at the expense of any handicap parking spots.
I just hope the people don't bring the food to the Beach because then the dogs will smell the food and maybe bother people for it and get upset with the dogs, but it's not the dogs fault !!!!
i go all winter and would love to get my coffee/tea there...
As long as its run right and doesn't attract loiters
As long as it has bathrooms with it.
Can the cafe include holistic treats for for dogs?
So long as it contributes to the upkeep of the beach, ie, is owned by Mondog.org, or contributes profits to Mongog
Please make sure that there are vegetarian options.
it would be great to have a place to get a drink
As long as it's a leashed area, I think it's a great idea.
As long as it doesn't cut parking
doggy treats should be available too
I think a dog fountain will be good too
as long as there is parking available for dog owners!
As long as it is tasteful. It would be nice to have the ability to buy a bottle of water or a nice treat for my dog.
Especially like porta=potty
Wonderful idea," can't wait!"
It's about time!!!
love the idea of selling dog treats and having a dog drinking fountain too!
Make sure it's dog friendly with shade!
I like it! I'll get coffee there instead of Starbucks
COOL
Love it! This is missing from the beach.
Love it!!
great
I don't like the idea of food migrating to the beach, but food is already outside the beach.
I think a more permanent setup would be an improvement
As long as food items stay in the cafe/picnic area. Coffee or drinks would be fine on the beach, but some dogs, especially larger ones, get nutty around food.
They could sell
but only if people don't bring food into the beach and litter it. dogs will go crazy too if there's too much food around.
Money to go to Mondog? I think that would be worthwhile
Seems like there are more appropriate things to spend money on, such as fountains for rinsing off.. and the combo of dog(s) + food could lead to safety issues (you ever seen a person with reaaallly good treats get bombarded by dogs at the beach..?) but I think it could be a good idea.. maybe not a great" idea, but certainly a good one if people can respond respectfully (e.g. cleaning up after themselves) and intelligently to the addition. "
Change is good sometimes.
Having a snack available would make me stay longer. Enjoy the day.
Offer a chance to donate to Mondog
I think it's a bad idea.
I've moved to Orange County in 2011, and introducing food to the beach has been a rough transition for my well behaved dog.
The café would undoubtedly earn someone a nice profit, but I don't think it will improve the dog beach atmosphere. In fact, food nearby will make the beach worse. The presence of the café might encourage people (with or without dogs in tow) to bring food to the adjacent dog beach. There are enough people doing this already (although kudos to Mondog and the Park District for posting rules telling people not to do this). Many dogs become excited, if not downright aggressive, in the presence of food; they don't need any more stimulation. And given that the dog beach is not completely enclosed, dogs in search of a sandwich (or whatever!) would be encouraged to bolt because of the food smells -- not just from the café itself, but from people walking around eating the food they just purchased.
It will result in more trash on the beach.
higher chances of dogs getting sick from eating human food. dogs being more aggressive trying to get food. littering. there is a concession stand not to far on montrose and foster beaches
creates more parking issues
This is a TERRIBLE idea! There is already too much trash, and you can't even keep the fence fixed! It will be overrun by thugs and teenagers.
This will reduce parking space, increase trash & traffic
I feel like enough people already bring food into the beach, and as an owner with food-driven dogs, it limits our enjoyment of the beach as we spend the entire time trying to keep our dogs out of picnics
The beach is for the dogs not the owners! One of the rules posted outside the beach is no food" yet people still bring food, don't encourage it!!"
Food and trash won't mess with dogs
Whenever people bring food to the dog beach is causes problems. I don't think people should be encouraged to eat at a dog beach.
Not good for some dogs to be eating people food that will be dropped.
Dogs and snacks can be a problem. My dogs are food obsessive. A drink bar only would be a great idea.
Lost parking, more people bringing food on the beach, and you just know there are going to be sitting at the cafe watching" their dogs on the beach. "
it will take up parking spots, lead to more of a traffic mess and people will bring more food and trash into the dog beach! this is a bad idea!
I'd rather see a licensed food wagon/lunch truck schedule a stop vs. a permanent cafe structure.
having food around dogs will make certain dogs go crazy. It is currently a problem as people have been leaving slices of bread around. The dogs don't listen and run for the food.
There are already places to get refreshments on the waterfront
Added food and garbage = bad
Rule says no food," why do this?"
It will only add to the congestion and trash. I would be more receptive if a percentage of the cafe's profits went to Mondog.
Parking is at a premium as it is. Especially during the summer. To build a cafe & take away parking space is ludicrous. There is a hotdog cart in the summer & 2 other establishments on the beach as it is. I don't see a need for a third.
Wouldn't this violate the no-food rule for inside the beach? If there was a way to encourage people to confine their eating to the cafe area, I'd think it was a good idea. But the combination of people new to the beach plus food plus dogs seems dangerous.
It would create traffic congestion and competition for parking that would discourage the use of the beach for dog play and exercise.
It would make the beach more crowded and increase the risk of dog fights.
people don't watch dogs now!
It would bring too many dogs to an already crowded beach.
Too much trash and traffic leave a good thing alone. Beach and owners only
We wouldn't use it just like we don't use the cafe at the south end of the beach.
This is time for you and your dog not social hour.
dogs and food not a good combination, and there is not enough parking spots as is
it will distract pet owners
I can't think of a worse idea than a cafe at the dog beach
there is a place nearby. this is totally unnecessary and will take up needed space in the parking area as well as creating another point of aggression for some dogs - the proximity and smell of food cooking.
NO! It takes up valuable parking space! And why would we want the smell of cooking food around a bunch of dogs?! It would further aggravate aggressive, poorly behaved dogs! NO!
I have a beagle - if she smells food (and believe me, her nose is GOOD) she will spend the whole time obsessing trying to get to it. I want her to play and get her energy out and that won't happen if she is distracted.... I know a lot of other dog owners will agree who have very food motivated dogs! NOT happy about this idea at all.
Terrible idea for the dogs!!
The cafe would permanently take away valuable parking spots and may have dogs interrupting business. I think the idea, moderately removed from the parking lot and beach and placed on the grass is a good idea.
The parking in that area is already overcrowded, and this will only make it worse. Moreover, some dogs who may have food aggression issues may be set off by the prescence of these items on the dog beach. I also feel like it would create additional litter on the beach because not everyone is respectful enough to clean up after their dog, let alone themselves. Overall, this is just a bad idea.
Will increase traffic congestion and parking in the summer. Will cause people entering and leaving the dog beach to have to navigate around cafe customers who may not be dog people.
Strange figs and food don't mix. Seems disgusting also given the high concentration of dog urine right there.
Unless at least 5-10% fund goes toward montrose dog beach
not needed
It will encourage people to bring food into the park area, which leads to more trash on the beach. Food on the beach is always a problem because those people will be followed by the dogs.
Beach frequently crowded with children/families not dogs. Seems to open up sanitation issues. The stands at Montrose are not that far
More trash on the beach, will make dogs anxious, people will be paying more attention to the food they are eating instead of their dogs which is the entire purpose of the dog beach" in the first place. "
I am concerned it will encourage loiterers and litterers who will consume more resources and contribute very little.
if people bring food to beach..it may cause some fights
Unless they are going to give back a portion of their profits to pay for the dog park-NO
because people will bring food to beach
Terrible idea. There will constatntly be food an garbage in the parking lot and people will bring food onto the beach. It's bad enough already with the people who picnic on the beach in the summer. Don't do this!
A cafe is not needed and a waste of time, resources and parking.
No cafe. One more step toward pushing the dogs out
I believe a cafe near the DFA is a terrible idea and brings in the wrong kinds of activity and garbage that respectful DFA patrons do nit appreciate.
I think the cafe is a terrible idea. There is another cafe walking distance from the dog beach. This will bring traffic to already overused area. The focus should be on great ideas like paying an annual fee for use that could in turn be used for enforcement of the beach rules and to make sure the dog beach that we are lucky enough to have stays safe and fun for all users.
Why would a cafe have to be in the parking lot?
Undecided.
It's already a very congested area.
This really depends on management of the cafe; they need to be responsible for garbage and this is not being done at the other cafe at all.
I like the portapotty proposal that goes with it!
food inside the dog beach=gross and confusing for doggies!
It really depends on how it is operated. I do have concerns about people having sandwiches and food on the beach.
Transparent Competitive Procurement is not The Park District's Strong Suit
probably buy beverages, maybe dog treats
Food would be handy, and restrooms would also be appreciated. But I'd rather dining be confined to cafe tables on site; loose dogs and food could be a not so great combination on the beach.
Depends on how it is implemented, size, traffic, etc.
I think it might add traffic to the parking lot, and add trash
I do however like the idea of porta-johns
i don't like the idea of food at the beach because my dog is food aggressive, but i guess i could deal with it if I had to
could be ok, but people carrying people food into the actual dog park could be a problem
Good idea if people don't bring food into the beach.
Not sure if food and dogs mix but having water there would be great.
Not necessary, I really enjoy what is already offered by the venders for years! The park has still remained very clean!
It would be nice, but might encourage patrons to leave their dogs unattended.
pooches will crave food
Isn't there a hut that sells food relatively close? I don't see the need for a Cafe.
I don't have an opinion.
Generally, I like the idea. The facilities for humans would be appreciated. It might cause people to linger longer, and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
My dogs are trained to come on command. If they don't and they eat someone's sandwich, oh well.
I would like it. However, some dogs can be food aggressive, which may be a problem. Also would require dog-safe garbage bins.
My opinion would be biased as i am the vendor for this proposed location
There are enough sidewalk vendors in summer to get a drink or snack if you need one
