Warning to All Dog Owners

On Saturday June 5th, in what can only be described as a tragic and unfortunate event, a young, intact male Husky mortally wounded a 7 month old Chihuahua Puppy.

There was no big dog fight, no overly aggressive behavior, no out of control dogs, just a big dog with a heavy prey instinct who saw the tiny puppy as something fun to play with.

There were subtle warning signs both owners should have picked up on and should have removed their dogs, but the inexperienced owners underestimated the situation. It was a horrible and tragic thing to have witnessed. In just seconds, a young woman with a baby on the way watched in horror as her sweet little puppy was shook to death by a dog that saw it as nothing more than a stuffed squeak toy.

The owners of the Huskys response to the incident was insensitive, inappropriate, and totally unacceptable. Then he left the beach without taking responsibility for his dogs actions. Make no bones about it, his dog was at fault. We need this owner to do the right thing and come forward and take responsibility for the damages inflicted by your dog. These are the Dog Parks rules, and when you use the dog parks, you agree to follow the rules. So MAN UP!

This should be a wake up to everyone that it’s vital to watch your dogs at all times. Everyone has to take responsibility for their own dog. It's your job as a dog owner to keep your dog out of trouble, AND to keep your dog safe. You have to know your dog. You have to understand what your dog is capable of, how it interacts with other dogs, and be prepared to remove him or her from a situation that could turn ugly BEFORE it turns bad. It's very unfortunate that people have to learn from their mistakes, and time and time again, it’s the first time dog owner that underestimates the damage their dog can to another dog or person until it's too late.

This type of behavior will not be tolerated! There are several dogs that are already on our radar as being aggressive, including a large intact pit bull and a dog hybrid. The owners are not in control of these dogs, and they are refusing to take the situation seriously. This is a warning to these owners that we are already compiling your information, and when your dog hurts another dog, you will be held accountable. You have been warned!
